Founder
SAMI was founded in 1996 by the visionary Brad Peterson after an illustrious career in management consulting. Brad was determined to create a global firm committed to delivering sustainable performance improvement in industrial organizations. After observing issues related to maintenance improvement projects throughout his early career, he set out to create a more inclusive model of functional improvement, a more collaborative model of client engagement, and an approach that maximized executive level involvement.
Brad developed a new category of performance improvement related to Asset Healthcare and created the SAMI Triangle. Brad developed and presented numerous papers on the topic across industry to create awareness and understanding of the new approach. Concurrently, Brad developed a new client engagement model that allowed projects to have the necessary collaboration for change and the requisite time to embed changes into the organization. Asset Healthcare improvement projects garnered broader support across functional boundaries and proved to be highly effective. These foundational models developed by Brad are still in use today after decades of refinement.
Brad was a highly educated individual having received a BS in Physics and Mathematics, an MS in Physics Education, and an MS in Counseling Psychology. The background in psychology led him to develop the emphasis on behaviors and culture in our engagements. Although these rudimentary concepts were developed out of necessity, they have evolved into our current focus on Performance Culture™.
Brad had a passion for travel and a sincere desire to expose the SAMI Triangle to organizations around the world to illuminate a different way forward to them. He repeatedly emphasized the need to “bring light to dark places” and assist people in creating a better and more balanced work life. Although Brad passed away in 2016, we still strive to achieve his vision of a global firm where, “the sun never sets on SAMI operations”. We are grateful for his vision and insightful guidance on our growth journey at SAMI.

Evolution
After SAMI was founded in 1996 to help businesses and organizations achieve and sustain the highest levels of performance, we have evolved and refined our tools and methods over decades and hundreds of engagements. The fundamental concepts of the original engagement model are still employed today and have consistently produced sustainable performance improvements in diverse industries across six continents.
Having developed a new category of performance improvement related to Asset Healthcare, The SAMI Triangle was the predecessor and cornerstone of our current Performance Culture Pyramid model. After the first decade of implementing and refining the Asset Healthcare model, SAMI expanded its service offering to include the remaining sides of the current Performance Culture Pyramid model. Recognizing that the other functional areas beyond maintenance and reliability had their own unique challenges to support the overall concept of strategic asset management.
The Performance Culture Pyramid model was foundational to the development of the concept Performance Culture. The Performance Culture is an aspirational state of continuous improvement for an organization that is the organizing principle for all of our work. Whether we engage our clients through specific functional opportunities or at a higher level of organizational performance, the concept of refined business processes supported by best behaviors with consistent governance creates a platform for optimizing performance in any industry.
SAMI was headquartered in the U.S.A. in Hartford, CT, for our first 20 years. We have since relocated WHQ to the greater Lafayette, LA metro area to take advantage of the proximity to the majority of our client base.
