Design

The Design Phase involves a team of core people who represent a vertical and horizontal cross-section of the organization. It also involves personnel from key

stakeholder groups. The Design Team is prepared for the design process through an overview of change management, participation in The Manufacturing Game™ , and a detailed review of the background, gaps and business case developed in the Assess and Plan phases.

Armed with this information, the team reviews existing functional processes against the gaps identified. The processes are revised, and new ones are designed where necessary. The outcomes of this process include:

  • Revised process maps and detailed process guides
  • Detailed Implementation Plan
  • Training materials
  • Roles, responsibilities and accountabilities
  • Communications and stakeholder development plan
  • Key Performance Indicators and Behavioral Metrics reporting process
  • Financial goals achievement plan

Ownership by the Design Team originates in their development of the new processes. Commitment to and passion for the new work system is the most important outcome of the design phase. The team forms a “hot core” of individuals that is now ready to carry the message to the organization that this is their own system, and not SAMI’s.
