Asian Operations

SAMI's exposure and recognition in the region has grown significantly over the past 3 years as a result of our participation in a number of educational seminars,  speaking engagements and client work with ConocoPhillips Indonesian operations. Our presence has attracted interest from companies throughout Asia and has led to a number of serious discussions with some of the region’s largest and well known companies, including Petronas, PTT (several divisions), Tenaga National, EGAT, Thai Oil and PetroVietnam about using SAMI’s services.

To gain further exposure we have engaged representatives from Thailand with high governmental contacts, as well as deep experience in oil and gas production and maintenance functions. We have also identified a number of experienced contractors from Malaysia and Thailand who have the necessary skills, background and cultural knowledge to help us successfully serve this market.
 
SAMI's Regional Presence

SAMI supported the assessment of ConocoPhillips Indonesian operations as a subset of the global evaluation of Operational Excellence (OpEx).  The assessment was conducted in two segments; site self assessment followed by independent subject matter expert evaluation.  The intent was to identify the effective application of best practices as defined by the global model of Operational Excellence (OpEx).  The assessment was composed of analyses in eight key systems of effective operations:

1) Leadership and Management
2) Health, Safety and Environmental
3) Human Performance
4) Planning and Scheduling
5) Production Optimization
6) Maintenance and Reliability
7) Information Technology Management
8) Asset and Operating Integrity  

The assessment engaged both onshore and offshore operations to evaluate the consistency of work practices within the operations and to develop plans for performance improvement.

Mr. Peterson is the founder and principal owner of Strategic Asset Management Inc.(SAMI). His motivation in starting SAMI was his belief that maintenance consulting achieved less success than was possible, and believed a new approach was necessary. In addition, he understood that the highest level of performance in managing assets was possible and this process needed to be articulated. Development of these concepts has led SAMI to become the world leader in Asset Management consulting.

Mr. Peterson's contributions to industry include:

  • Sponsored the creation of the Society of Maintenance & Reliability Professionals in 1992 and has served on the Board of Directors since that time
  • Led development of professional certification within SMRP, founded SMRPCo
  • Speaks extensively on the topic of Asset Management in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, South Africa and South America.

Mr. Peterson's experience has included practice leadership in two major management consulting firms, and his extensive includes working in refining, petrochemicals, pulp & paper, power generation, production & exploration, mining & minerals, steel, aluminum, automotive, office equipment fabrication, food processing, pipelines, utilities, carbon & graphite, government and transportation. His education includes an undergraduate (Phi Beta Kappa) and graduate degree in Physics and a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology.
