A Day In the Life of a SAMI Consultant

The one constant in the day of a SAMI consultant is change.  Depending on the needs of the client, s/he may be waking up in a hotel in Africa, on a drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico, or in a rented flat in an industrial city anywhere on the planet . . . or Cleveland.

S/he will usually share breakfast with the SAMI team, a group of seasoned professionals who relish the opportunity to learn about new places while they share their expertise with a wide variety of clients.  The same group usually shares dinner in the evening while informally reviewing the day's progress.  Formal reviews are usually weekly, at "All Hands Meetings." Working hours and everything else about the daily schedule are dictated by the client's needs.  SAMI teams typically work a little longer than the client, but on a similar schedule.  This keeps us available and demonstrates our interest in the client and the project.  Lunch is often eaten while working with one hand. SAMI projects are usually long enough for team members to become established in their living quarters.  The three-hotels-per-week drill is rare.  Team members working in their home countries normally get home for weekends.  Others typically have weekends off in the country where they are working.  Teams on drilling rigs, etc. will usually match the work schedules of client crews they support.  SAMI works with clients to balance home time and work time in a way that makes sense in view of client and family needs. Life on a SAMI team provides lots of challenging work, interesting colleagues, and an invigorating variety of locations in which to enjoy both.  Most SAMI's wouldn't have it any other way
